How I came to know about this book:

Lavanya and I knew each other through our shared literary agency, often chatting about books and their marketing. So, when I came across the blurb of her story, I couldn’t resist checking it out. Being a sucker for sci-fi, especially anything involving time travel, it was right up my alley.

What the book is about :

Time and Tide Wait for Love is a captivating novella that seamlessly blends elements of romance, science fiction, and drama, creating an engaging narrative that will resonate with young adult fiction enthusiasts.

The story revolves around Mallika, a young doctor who seemingly has it all—a fulfilling career and a loving husband. To add the cherry on the cake of her life, she discovers she is expecting a child. However, the joy is cut short by losing both her husband and unborn child to a cruel twist of fate. Determined to rewrite her destiny, Mallika takes matters into her own hands and embarks on a thrilling journey through time, attempting to alter the course of events not once, but three times.

What I have loved about the book :

The strength of Krishnamurthy's storytelling lies in her ability to craft a plot filled with unexpected twists and turns, keeping readers hooked from the first page to the last. The author's background as a doctor adds a personal touch to the narrative, as most of the characters share the same profession, lending authenticity to the medical aspects of the story. One of the novella's standout features is its incorporation of poetry, particularly the works of Byron, which beautifully weaves through the pages. This adds a poetic and emotional layer to the narrative, enhancing the overall reading experience.

What I felt could have been better :

However, a minor critique lies in the wish for a more vivid description of the bygone era. While the story hints at a specific time period, a more immersive portrayal of the setting would have further enriched the reader's experience. The narrative could benefit from a more explicit depiction of the 30s, helping readers immerse themselves in the historical context.

Why one should read or not read this book:

Overall, the book is a superb YA fiction read that successfully explores themes of love, loss, and the resilience of the human spirit. It is a compelling choice for readers seeking a blend of romance and science fiction. It instils a belief in the readers that in life’s story if things are not going the way they should, then ‘Picture abhi Baaki hai mere dost…’
